Protecting your privacy is job one

The idea behind Hotspot Defender happened during a 2001 trip to Seattle where one of my laptops was compromised on a wired network at a three star hotel in Bellevue.

I had found that a zero day expolit was compromising computers attached to the hotel network. Upon returning to Detroit I did a system restore on the laptop and swore this would never happen to me again. I started looking into security products and decided that Microsoft's point to point tunneling protocol would protect myself and my employees while connected to remote untrusted networks.

After getting my first PPTP server setup I have not been compromised since. In 2003 I became aware of an open source project that provided better security and upgraded all of my employees to the newer technology while maintaining the older technology as well. That turned out to be a smart choice since Windows and Macs can use the newer software, iPhones and Droids still use the PPTP protocols. After a close family member had their idenity stolen off a social network I decided it was high time to roll out this heavily tested rock solid service to the public. Now Hotspot Defender is an affordable service for piece of mind no matter what device you use to connect to the Internet on public networks
